Grapefruit is simply amazing…

The grapefruit is the cross between a pomelo and an orange. It was given the name grapefruit because they grow in clusters like grapes.  Its health benefits come from a variety of nutrients and vitamins, including potassium and lycopene; it also has calcium, sugar and phosphorous.

Grapefruits are low in calories, high in fiber, full of nutrients, and a rich source of vitamin A and C. Vitamins A supports eye and skin health. Vitamin C supports hair, nails, and skin health as well, and it also supports the immune system to combat infections, both viral and bacterial.

Prevents Gum Disease
Vitamin C is important for rebuilding and repairing healthy gums and it helps keep the teeth sturdy and in place. A 2005 study published in the British Dental Journal discovered that eating two grapefruits a day can prevent and reverse the damage caused by gum disease. Anyone experiencing gum disease can reduce gum bleeding by adding grapefruit or fresh squeezed grapefruit juice to their daily diet.

Cardiovascular Health Support
Grapefruits are rich in potassium. Potassium is an important mineral that helps maintain the heart rate and support the circulatory system.  Potassium aids the body in fighting a variety of conditions such as fatigue, fever, malaria, urinary issues, over-acidity, diabetes, constipation, indigestion, and much more.

Promotes Weight Loss
Grapefruits are rich in B-vitamins, such as vitamins B1, B5, and B7. These B-vitamins are specifically responsible for the metabolism and energy production in the body. They are also responsible for metabolizing fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.

Natural Fat Burner
Whole grapefruit and grapefruit juice are very popular for people looking to lose weight. Grapefruit raises the body’s metabolic rate and lowers insulin levels. Try eating a grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice a half an hour before a meal. It is rich in fiber and eating it whole suppresses the appetite and promotes a feeling of fullness. It helps to boost the body’s metabolism by using the foods that you eat, as energy.  The fiber in grapefruit also prevents cholesterol from entering the bloodstream.

Prevents Kidney Stones
Naringenin is what gives grapefruit its bitter taste. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects prevent kidney stones from forming and reduce the swelling in the kidneys caused by fluid retention. Drinking up to a liter of grapefruit juice daily blocks and prevents the formation of kidney stones. Naringenin also inhibits the production of bad cholesterol and it naturally detoxifies the liver.

Fights Fevers
Grapefruit pulp or the juice helps promotes faster recovery from fevers. It reduces the burning or heat sensation that happens when the body reaches a high temperature.

Promotes Hydration
Grapefruit juice, when it is mixed with water, speedily eliminates thirst and keeps the body hydrated longer. It has a high water content, promotes healthy skin and increases the body’s metabolic rate.

Fights a multitude of health ailments
Grapefruits contain ‘quinine’. Quinine is an alkaloid used to treat malaria, lupus, arthritis and nocturnal leg cramps.

Digestive Health
Grapefruit pulp and fiber provide healthy bulk which aids bowel movements and reduces the chance of colon cancer.

Fights Cancer
Grapefruits contain bioflavonoids and other plant substances that protect against the formation of tumors and diseases such as cancer.

If you find yourself pondering about the ways to improve your health, remember grapefruit could be the beginning of a better and healthier you.
